Right-clicking on any material slate from the Preset Material Library gives the option to apply it directly to the currently selected object or add it to the Asset Editor's Material List. To add a preset to the current Rhino scene, simply drag and drop a preset material from the Library into the Asset Editor's Material List. The material library is accessed by expanding the Asset Editor with the Material Editor tab open. V-Ray for Rhino includes an extensive library of ready-to-use materials. Here some screenshots: Screenshot Objects which reference material images show in black when rendered. Rhino 6 Material Library - Material editor is pointing to an online bitmap image but the assigned objects are black Rhino for Windows. I mentioned Shapediver… It is interesting, that shapediver is giving back also only black textures in Grasshopper respectively in the Rhino viewer but uploaded at Shapediver the textures appeared completely well. The problem also appeared when the bitmap is saved directly on the desktop. I use the latest Rhino release candidate. I also tried to convert the images with and without alpha cannel or into jpgs without any success. Maybe it would work if the box is checked by default. When using plugins like Shapediver for Grasshopper which address the Rhino viewer there is no way for checking this mentioned box. Then it works but it is not the solution. Thus, when creating a new user defined material with a color texture that appears black you can solve the problem checking the color mask bottom. I experimented a little bit and found out, that some bitmaps work fine but others not although I could not find any difference in the file formats. The problem appeared on my old iMac and I thought that it could be a problem with the virtual machine but then I took my new Lenovo Yoga where die textures are black, too.

You can let Rhino download all bitmap textures from the server in one go in the Libraries panel. When assigning such an object from the material library in theory Rhino should start downloading the associated bitmap image from the server.įor this to work your Rhino should be able to find and connect to the download location.
RHINO 5 MATERIAL LIBRARY DOWNLOAD UPDATE
If you are running an SR1 release candidate, please see if there is an update available. There is no ETA yet, but it is planned as a feature in one of the next major updates. The image file is at the website. We are keen on enhancing the functionality of the Material library and add personalisation and customization options. Thank you for your comment, it will be noted in our future discussions! Options for saving scene materials to a custom library will also be a nice addition and is something on our 'to do' list.
Hi delineator, Support for custom library locations is a feature that will be implemented in one of the upcoming updates. That works for us for now, although a custom library location option would be great! Originally posted by delineator View Post.
Just to add to that: for our studio, I wrote a simple sync script, so new textures and vrmats are added to our network drive, and then synced down to the location above whenever the user restarts the computer. You may have to restart SketchUp for new folders to show up, though. Would be so great if you could do it with Vray too. My normal SU materials path is a folder in my dropbox, so that when I'm out, any new materials are synced from my laptop and workstation. Is it not possible to add to the material library, or am I just doing it the wrong way? It would be really nice to have a second, user materials path that the library also references, so that you could keep your materials on the network or a shared folder.Īn option to 'save all materials to user folder', that collected all Vray referenced files and saved them in a folder with the same name as the project would be amazing. It seems like I should be able to just drag and drop the material over to the library, but nothing happens.
